I’ve struggled to find answers on this in Polish, German or English. I know some cities like Wrocław was German and Polish before that, but also smaller towns and villages? Did Germans and Poles live side by side in, say, the 16th century? I am very curious if modern west Poland was particularly historically Polish ethnically before World war 2 and before Prussia.
Sorry if my English isn’t great, I will try to make it clear if asked. Thank you
West Poland has continually switched ethnicities depending on who controlled it. It was Polish for 560+ years whilst under German or was 370+. There were Poles and Germans living in communities side by side, not counting Jewish minorities.
