Why is Hilton Head Island considered to have Scottish origin?

by HeyitsColm

A big part of the RBC heritage, a golf tournament played on Hilton Head Island, is its Scottish origin. Tournament organizers encourage people to wear plaid and otherwise celebrate the Scots. Why is this so if the man who originally claimed Hilton Head Island was Captain William Hilton (an English man)?

The Scottish theme It has nothing to do with Hilton Head itself and everything to do with golf and Scotland. Charles Fraser the founder of the course at Sea Pines chose the Scottish themes when he started the tournament in 1969 after determining that golf clubs and balls had been shipped into South Carolina a century before the traditional date of 1888 (in NY).
