Are there any current European experts in 16th-19th century judicial dueling?

by zosorunez

Hey folks, was redirected here from /r/history...

I'm currently working on a research project on judicial dueling (and dueling generally) and am having some trouble finding any recent scholarship outside the US. My current focus is on contacting active European scholars/historians/professors who specialize or have an active interest in 16th-19th century dueling (not trial by combat), or at the least are experts in European history over that period. Specifically, I'm looking for individuals in Ireland, the British Isles, Germany, France, and Italy, but location is not necessarily dispositive. If anyone has any specific recommendations or additional resources that might facilitate my search, please let me know. Thanks!

Hi!

As you're looking for sources, I'll simply direct you here. It is a extensive bibliography on dueling which I maintain. I'll note that it is also woefully incomplete, as I never finished it, and haven't had the time recently, but it has a lot of the important works, certainly, and should be more than enough for your needs, but if you need anything which you don't see in there, let me know and I can see what I might have to suggest.
