I've recently moved to the US and was willing to know more about the country's history. I'm not a history reader but I thought it's necessary for me to know more about the country I live in. I've heard of "A Short History of the United States" by Robert V. Remini, and "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. However, I'm not sure how balanced they are and whether the authors have done a good job or not.
Hey there. You might want to have a look at the /r/askhistorians book list: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/wiki/books/americas#wiki_united_states
Evaluations of Zinn are also a frequently asked question, you may want to do a thread search.
I haven’t read that particular book by Remini, but I recall enjoying his biographies of Andrew Jackson.
Is there a particular time period that you’re interested in?
