This is a set of questions regarding the states of things in 1750 in the Venetian Dalmatia. I am sorry if this is not the appropriated subreddit, or if it is not in askhistorians' reddiquette to answer those, but I am very limited in my historical knowledge, and finding any answer element would take me at least 10 hours by questions, so I was hoping you could help :) (One precision : When I say "I read", I most likely meant "I read on wikipedia".)
So I was looking for some general information about what was life in Venice in 1750, but I quickly came to the realisation I can't understand much, first because english isn't my native language, and second because I do not have enough experience (or knowledge) to tell appart what is relevent or what is not. For instance, when trying to figure out what were the last major inventions buisness and citizens could have access to (while reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_historic_inventions#1730s), I told myself "Ok so some guys hunt invented the first mechanized cotton spinning machine in 1738, but how much could this have spread in the next 20 years ?"
I mean, even know if there were some guy that were to invent a process that allows humans to live 20 years longer, and feel like a 20 year-old until you turn 40, I am pretty sure that guy would not share its knowledge that easily, without even considering the use of patents ...
So what were the relevent inventions that people and buisnesses could use and have access to ?
On the other side, considering inflation and deflation (I am not sure of the meaning of those words, I will clarify if this really doesn't mean anything ... ) what would be the equivalent price (in $) of :
So know they used Sequin as coins, but I can't really imagine the people using gold coins. Is that a bad representation ?
Was there a police in the Venetian Dalmatia ? I mean, I guess there was some kind of barracks instead of a police, but can I generalize what I have read regarding France, that is, Polices were mostly something that appeared in the end of the 18th century, and generalized in the 19th ?
What were the most dominant afflictions at that time ? After some researches I assume that should be Cholera, Influenza and famines (Based on the fact there is a big famine in 1764 in Napoly, but maybe this is an isolated occurence), is that correct ?
How much importance did Doge election had ? I mean, even currently and as a french, I don't know how much changes it would have been if Bayrou won the presidential elections in 2012 instead of Hollande, so what were the stakes of the Venetian elections ? I guess that is a really subtle questions though.
Thank you for your time and attention.
