The term Hellas/Hellenes is an ancient term. It can be found within ancient writing such as: Demosthenes, On the Halonnesus and Aristophanes, Peace . It was used to describe the entirety of Greece during periods. Since Ancient Greece was not generally a unified country. Each city state did have their own name which they generally used. For example the Spartans are refereed to ] as Laconians sometime since the region they come from is Laconia. In the ancient writings deepening on who is writing and when the name for the area as a whole could differ between hellas or the Latin name of Graecia. During the Hellenic period it is possible that it would also be covered by Macedonia as it was a part of the Macedonian empire.
