I wonder if East Germany supplied/supported the RAF

The long and the short of it was that while Eastern bloc intelligence agencies saw left-wing terrorism as a potential asset and provided some material support, the Warsaw Pact states were not really backers of these groups. Their recruitment to the ranks of groups like the RAF came from within existing social networks within these Western countries and the targets of these terrorist networks had more to do with the domestic left-wing politics than with the Warsaw Pact's understanding of the geopolitical balance of power. These groups were useful, but not really trusted by the intelligence agencies like the Stasi.
