Reading request: Suez Crisis, Aden and the Troubles (early 70's particularly)

by KingSix_o_Things

Hi, I'm looking for a recommendation for books about these three episodes in British military history.

I have a personal connection to all three, and I've decided it's long past time that I educated myself on them beyond my current superficial understanding.

They don't have to be military focused, in fact I would prefer them to include wider context.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

"A history of the modern middle east" by Cleveland & Bunton (2013) , dedicates a chapter explaining the suez crisis in regional context. Good read, would recommend the whole book if you are interested in British/French involvement in the Middle East during this period.

William L. Cleveland & Martin Bunton. A history of the modern middle East. (2013)

You should check out Eamonn McCann's "War and an Irish Town", and David McKittrick's "Making sense of The Troubles". McCann's is especially a good insight into the beginning of the conflict from a guy who was at the heart of the civil rights movement

I read this for an assignment for the Suez Crisis:

Kyle, Keith (2003), Suez – Britain´s End of Empire in the Middle East, London, I.B. Tauris

Very detailed and gives a wide spectrum. You don't read this just in an afternoon (most likely not even in a week)
