I want to major in history and have a few questions about the requirements.

by OneOnlyBigC

As the titles says I am looking to major in history. I am 20 years old and have no idea what is required of history majors. I have always had a love for history, I didn't much care for other subjects in school but history was always interesting and fun. What kind of general education courses will I have to get out of the way before I can focus on my major?

My biggest concern is how many math courses I'll need as a requirement. I'm not very good at math, but I managed to pass my math course last semester. I'm struggling with my Algebra course this semester. Do I really need more than one Math course for a history major?

How else can I prepare myself for a major in history? Any and all advice is welcome. If this is the incorrect subreddit for questions such as this, please direct me to the proper subreddit if you can, thank you.

Your requirements are going to depend on what university you attend. They're all a bit different. I had to take college algebra and statistics, but some universities only require one math class, and I'm sure there are some that require more.

I know figuring out program requirements can be a pain in the ass, and it can be difficult to know what faculty members to talk to. If you're uncomfortable broadcasting your school information, PM me the name of your university and I'll try to help you figure it out.

Requirements will depend greatly on the college/university that you want to attend. You should consider checking the websites of the places you are interested in so that you can get a feel for their requirements— definitely check out their history department websites, if they have one, to see if they have information on requirements spelled out.

Most high education institutions will have general education requirements you will need to complete. But it’s very dependent on the local and they do tend to change over time.
