Germanic tribes or viking-era Scandinavians? Both have very different answers, depending on what you want.
Insofar as early medieval Scandinavia is concerned, people who were maimed - whether losing a hand, foot, or eye, for example - were still treated as well as others. There are saga characters with one hand, such as Egil einhenda of Egils saga einhanda ok Ásmundar berserkjabana and Grettir Asmundarson of Grettis saga and a number with one foot or leg, like Onund tréfótr for Grettis saga and Þórir viðleggr who got along just fine with their disability. Egil was a famed berserker, Onund was a warrior (and, after losing his lower leg in battle, still got himself into trouble) and Þórir shows up all over the place in the sagas.
