I am interested in the pre-1492 time period. Is there any literature on how people in the Great Plains of North America understood, dealt with, and survived powerful storms? Are there any stories of large storms during which significant numbers of people perished? Did they try to react in advance of storms? Did they have protocols for what to do with their lodgings during storms?
There's always room for discussion, but perhaps the section Natural Disasters from our FAQ section will answer your inquiry.
