How do historians view Noam Chomsky?

There is a section on Chomsky in the FAQ, so I'll provide the links here:

Is Noam Chomsky worth reading

Historian's take on Noam Chomsky

Note, while these are in the FAQ, I hesitated to link them. The second has some good discussion, and might have flown in today's /r/AskHistorians but the first would have been a comment graveyard, and for good reason.

Source: I shoveled snow for him and we talked, on occasion. (Apologies for not having a more scholarly opinion- I haven't actually read most of his books.)

I mean really. I don't know if there is a process for reporting FAQ links, but some of them are pretty awful. Anyway, hopefully we can get a better discussion here and have a replacement link for a future better FAQ.

edit: Automod has asked me to credit/ping the commenters from the linked threads (this feels new, but I almost never post). So I hereby attempt to conjure /u/Cenodoxus and /u/Ahhuatl the tagged users from the second thread.
