Judging by the size in relation to the grain of the wood in the table, it appears to be a musket ball of some kind. the star could either be an armory crest, or could be some other identifier for the bullets. A house/unit crest or other religious marker comes to mind. However, I am not an expert on the wars in the region, as that could help identify the markings on the bullet and therefore identify who made it.

A scale would be nice. How big is this thing?
