This manuscript is a legal settlement made between two parties who were fighting over control of a messuage (a house with a plot of land) and one and a half virgates of land (a virgate was about 30 acres) in Brede (Sussex). Matilda, daughter of Bartholomew of Walnechope claimed custody of the messuage against Gilbert Tripelere and his wife Johanna, William of Gravenherst and his wife Juliana, Robert of Burgham and his wife Alice, and Walter of Filesham and his wife Agatha. It was agreed that Matilda retain control of the property, with her challengers renouncing their right to the lands, and in return Matilda gave them 100 shillings. Matilda was represented in court by a Walter of Tangele, whilst her opponents were represented by William of Hays.

The document is missing some key information. Normally this sort of charter, called a final concord, would begin with a line stating what court the agreement was made in. The text does refer to 'the same court' ('eadem curia'), suggesting that there was such a line in the charter. Is there anything on the reverse of the manuscript? It might be there. The hand looks like the first half of the fifteenth century to me, and the document relates to property in Sussex. There is a date at the bottom, but it's a little difficult to make out (it might be an indiction date, which is a little difficult to work out without extra information).

Here's my transcription with abbreviations expanded. Anything followed by a [?] is something I'm unsure of or was unable to transcribe correctly:
