Did the term fascism ever have a positive meaning?

by BummingAbout

I was just curious whether there are any historical texts which mention the ideology of fascism as a positive. Or has it always been a purely negative term?

I have written a short summary of how the term "fascism" came to be used in early XX Century Italy that might address your question.

If on the other hand you are looking at academic works that put fascism in a positive light; then the subject becomes more complex. I can probably put together something if this is the focus of your question but I think it would be better if someone more versed in the history of academics did it. In the Italian context at least the technical nature of many of the works published during the regime years make it quite problematic to re-evaluate their political nature and context. It also didn't help that - in the context of Fascism - the fascist nature of a publication was more or less implicitly assumed. Which leaves one with no choice but look into every piece of literature, its origin and purpose, to establish how it fits within the system.

For the post-fascism re-evaluation of fascism, we are really moving on the fringe side of historiography and beyond. A subject I am really not that familiar with.
