What was the driving force for Ottoman expansion in 16th - 17th century?

by AtomicSwede

Hello! Im taking a course in history and with the current assignment we have to write about the driving force behind different empires choice to expand. For some insight into the assignment(simplified): I've already written about the Mogul empire and that Babur chose to expand in part due to his heritage, being a decendant of Timur and Genghis Khan and how that had an effect on his successors and their choice to expand the empire. Now i have to do the same with the Ottoman empire but i'm having a really hard time finding sources and reasons as to why they chose to expand as much as they did. I'm also reading that they attempted to take Vienne multiple times up until 1683, why is that?

also: if anyone could shed some light on whom the Ottomans traded with, that'd be greatly appreciated.
