Hello I havent done any reading on the French revolution since high school and was wondering if you could recommend and multi volume or single volume general histories or books about the terror

"The French Revolution" by Owen Connelly and Fred Hembree was good imo. It's a short and easy read but a very solid overview of the whole revolution. "Paris in the Terror" by Loomis and "Glory and Terror" by Antoine De Baecque focus more on specific individuals but they're still centered around the terror and also pretty solid. I'd also recommend "The Revolutionary Career of Maximilien Robespierre" by Jordan.

If you are after something very comprehensive on the causes, conflicts and politics of the French Revolution, then there is "The Oxford History of the French Revolution" by Professor William Doyle. I have really enjoyed reading it, however I suspect it may not appeal to everyone. It is easy to read and very thorough, but if you aren't interested in a lot of focus being poured into the various meetings, drafts, Conventions etc, then this may not be for you.

I would recommend you look at our booklist. I wrote it mostly and if your'e looking for the Terror, look at Twelve Who Ruled by R. R. Palmer.
