Was Louisiana ever an independent state during the 18th century, before it became a part of the United States?

I'm currently playing Empire Total War. It's a strategy game set in the 18th century. I noticed that, although France and Britain own a big part of land in North America, a faction called 'Louisiana' has a few cities of his own. Is this historically inaccurate?

Lousiana was discovered in the 1580s, but wasnt established as a French colony until the late 1600s when Bienville came here. French explorers kept expanding on the territory with New Orleans becoming it's own established city in 1718, and the Louisiana purchase established by 1803. Louisiana wasnt its own independent state until 1812 (19th century).
