John H. Reagan was a member of the House of Representatives until 1861.

He voted against secession, but left the House when Texas seceded.

He served as Post Master General of the Confederacy and then briefly as Secretary of the Treasury (from April 27th-May 10th of 1865).

In 1886, he was elected to the US Senate and served until 1891.
