I recall reading in Walter Laqueur's History of Zionism the passages which spoke of how the country Jews were viewed as crude & uncivilized by the city Jews and by others. (I vaguely recall some reference with regards to marriage or marital relations with the uncivilized farmers etc. apparently there were plays or theater pieces which were written which Mr. Laqueur references or points out).
Here is an etext public version of the book : https://archive.org/details/historyofzionism00laqu I had to register in order to borrow it .
It is very strange but the book was published in 1921 and is still not publicly available?
I cannot locate the passages. Would someone be nice enough to paste those excerpts please?
If you do find the book or the passage would you please quote it (if that is allowed).
Are you referring to this passage?
The book has been published and republished numerous times. It was not published in 1921. Laqueur was born in 1921. The first edition was published in 1972 I believe.
I think I found the passage you're looking for. It starts on a paragraph that begins with "The number of educated Jews in Germany was increasing..."
I have the e-book, so I'm not sure what page it is for you. It's in the beginning, in the "Out of the Ghetto" chapter. Let me know if that's correct.
