This is my first post to this sub, and one of my first\-ever posts to Reddit. I read the sub rules and hopefully am keeping within the spirit of the community.
I’m developing a story about an American soldier who is held in a German POW camp during World War II. I’d consider this more a “personal story that happens to be set in WW2” as opposed to a war story or historical fiction \(i.e., “Gods and Generals”\). Having said that, I want it to be as historically accurate as possible, and I especially want to learn about the types and workings of German\-operated POW camps, as well as about the status/tone of the war at various stages.
So I guess I have two questions:
1.\) Can you recommend any books/documentaries that can help me learn about German\-operated POW camps? I think I’d benefit from both personal accounts and from top\-down overviews of how the camps were run.
2.\) I already have a dozen or so specific questions about the minutiae of the camps and likely will have more as I delve further. What would you suggest is the best way of obtaining answers to these? I’d hate to flood this sub with tiny questions. Does anyone have special interest/knowledge in this area who would have an interest in chatting with me about it?
Just looking for an overall roadmap here. Thanks for the help!

More to the point, we'd hate for you to use our panel of volunteers to help you write a work which is, presumably, meant to be released commercially. It is very good that you started out asking for resources to do your own research, rather than delving right into the questions you have. It would be best either to follow the recommendations that will hopefully be given in this thread, or to offer compensation for a researcher to answer your specific questions.
