I need to ask something about treatment of slaves in America before the civil war.

There was a scene from the movie Butler where Mariah Carey gets raped by a white plantation owner. I never saw the film but that scene popped up in my suggested videos on YouTube for some reason. The comment section was obviously "Race War: Nobody Wins", but there was this one guy or a girl ,I'm not sure posted like 15 to 20 links to studies, research papers and books that says it successfully debunked that "black slave women were raped by their masters" as a matter of fact all the 'proofs' the user provided states that such occurrences are rare and majority of them are consensual. I ignored. But when I googled on that the results doesn't show up that "rapes in plantation never happened" , it showed the opposite. Heck, even the links s/he posted didn't pop up. The video now has 13k comments so it's near impossible for me to get it back. And the only thing I could find was a book called, "Making Black History" by Jeffrey Allen Snyder which backed what s/he said. Other than that, nothing. So care to give any kind of unbiased clarification on this?

P.S.: I'm new to this sub, this is my first post here and I'm indian .

I've written on this before which you can find here, and while you ought to click through and read the whole piece, two notes of importance. The first is that the practice was fairly widespread, and although not talked about openly much, certainly known and discussed in private. The second is that talking about things like "consent" is incredibly problematic, as it can't be divorced from the framework in which these women (and men!) lived, and calling any sexual relationship on the plantation between a master (or his family, or his white employees) and slave consensual requires some very extensive discussion of power-dynamics and agency, as it cannot be used lightly (I'd point here for some further discussion of this issue.
