I just finished watching "The World Wars" from the History Channel. That was a very well done miniseries. I also really enjoyed "Band of Brothers"
I enjoy learning about history, but some documentaries are very dry. I really enjoy how these miniseries are done. From what I understand, they are historically accurate (at least historically accurate enough for a non-historian!), yet provide enough drama/acting to keep me interested.
Do you have any suggestions for similar miniseries/documentaries?
Take band of brothers with a pinch of salt; Stephen Ambrose wrote the book based on interviews he conducted with members of easy company over 50 years after the war - memories of each member would be slightly skewed and this shows in the programme: they recall Pvt Blithe and how he was shot in the neck, and never recovered from his wounds - this is incorrect.
There are a few mistakes like this dotted throughout the series that could have been checked by Ambrose but weren't. Regardless, it doesn't matter because the programme's main historical aim is to capture the human experience of the war, which it does fantastically.
