I am a Senator in Imperial Rome whose lands are all on the Italian peninsula, and I want to establish a new estate in the distant East - maybe Egypt, perhaps Anatolia. How do I even begin to go about making this investment?

I'm not asking for any particular reason. I simply realized that (a) I don't know the answer, (b) I would like to know the answer, and (c) there must be dozens of contributors to AskHistorians who can provide the answer without even looking at a source.
