Edit: I had Islamic period in mind.
Usually, since we were de facto Catholic nations until the mid 20th century at least, we have the intuitive view that we were living here and were pushed up by the moors and then returned and resettled the land. The moors are always viewed negatively and as outsiders, by the vast majority of the population. The reality, however, is that this was a feudal conflict where the whole of society was not involved in. The feudal lords lost their lands and the moors came in. The people remained for the most part, and in the short term benefitted, since most early moorish rulers weren't as strict as the visigothic elites (the almoravids and almohads were terrible though). Some, though probably not that many, converted to islam to escape some taxes and other things. There was some flourishing in agriculture, etc. Many people will acknowledge some good aspects of moorish rule, but virtually zero would wish it to have remained thus forever (like Morocco, etc). Probably because once christianity was dominant again (politically and militarily, it was always dominant religiously to the masses of people) the greatest period in our History started, the age of discoveries.
