I found this in my saved posts so am veeeeery late to the party but I'll try to give you an answer anyway:
Due to the aftermath of the Great War and the following economic as well as territorial instability the various governments of the Weimar Republic did not know any better how to pay federal employees and keep the state running than to make use of the money printing press. Therefore, the circulating cash rose up to an unfathomable amount of 500 Quintillion Mark. The reign administration under Wilhelm Cuno weren't able to stop the hyperinflation and resigned. Subsequently, Gustav Stresemann (SPD) formed a new administration with a clear aim towards a monetary reform. On November 15th 1923 they established the "Rentenmark" with an exchange rate of: 1 "Rentenmark" to 1 Trillion Mark! for comparison, the exchange rate of the "Rentenmark" towards the US Dollar was: 4,2 to 1$.
This reform was widely appreciated and most importantly it worked. It laid the groundwork for the "Dawes Plan" in which the Weimar Republic and the winners of WWI agreed upon binding the reparation payments Germany was due with the economic growth of the Weimar Republic. A great relieve for the German economy. Later in 1924 they replaced the "Rentenmark" with the "Reichsmark". A gold orientated currency. Afterwards the economy and inflation steadily grew back to normal.
This is just a short write up but should include the main steps halting the hyperinflation. If you have any follow up questions, feel free to ask!
