Book about how Africa was turned Christian in colonial times?

by emmazunz84

Please recommend a book about how parts of Africa which are now very Christian became so during modern history, and about how African Christianity developed distinctively. (I am aware that there was also ancient African Christianity, and that other religions and beliefs are also prominent in Africa.) Thanks!

The Art of Conversion by Cecile Fromont deals only with the Kingdom of Kongo, but has a good analysis of the development of Christianity in the region and how it interacted with the wider world of Christendom. Given that Fromont is an art historian, her analysis is based on the art of the kingdom - performance, paintings, artifacts, architecture - which also makes this a well-illustrated book.
