Follow-up: In Roman sources, Northern Europeans are depicted as undisciplined and impulsive, quick to anger, deeply individualistic, and resentful of authority. And the Romans depict themselves as patient, organized, disciplined, and focused. Now, this isn't really an inversion of OP's question, but I would like to read something about the transitional phases that seem to have shifted these traits so sharply. Thanks.
