Did slavery actually exists in parts of the British Empire till the 1950s?

I found something from /r/badhistory that made the claim that Slavery existed in parts of British colonies until the 1950s.

Is there any verification of this? Cause I find it hard to believe that this was not in effect in Britain after the Slavery Abolition Act 1833.

This is a good question. But I think we have to approach it by asking ourselves what exactly slavery is. This response by /u/nilhaus puts this into perspective.
