As an aside to this question, I’m also curious if early Nazi membership meant you were a hardcore Nazi. I’m german and often I hear that anyone who became a member in say the early to mid 1930s was a hardcore supporter. But could it have been somewhat common to join the party as a “can’t beat them, join them” tactic?
