I am looking for works that are by authors like Plutarch, Herodotus, Tacitus, etc.
I have heard of and/or have familiarity with the above authors, but I seek more like this that are crucial to ancient history. Also, if anyone can tell me what order these works should be read in, that would be great.
That's a very vague question. Are you looking for a canon of ancient historians? Plutarch doesn't fit that; he's a biographer, not a historian.
Order? It depends what you're interested in.
If you're just looking for a list of ancient historians, the Latin Library has a partial list. Items marked with an asterisk are at least partially extant.
