Did military personell kill themselves from post-traumatic stress before modern times?

by gingerfreddy

With the number of US war veterans killing themselves every year, and reading that some of the super-tall Prussian soldiers killed themselves to avoid duty, is there evidence of other soldiers doing the same from other cultures and times? If so, why is this not well known or recorded in history?
