Could non white singers play "whites only" bars in the 1960s?

I got an idea for a book, the main character is a Latino singer. Could he sing at a bar that was whites only in the 60s?

Sure. That Whites Only bar in the 1960's would have quite likely had black waiters, black cooks and bartenders. It would just not have served blacks as customers. Clarinetist and bandleader Artie Shaw was touring with Billie Holiday in the 1930's. Shaw and the white members of the band could mix with the guests and customers of the Lincoln Hotel , in New York, but they were told that Holiday would have to use the staff entrance, freight elevator, and couldn't mix with the patrons. But the '60's was of course the time when that was changing. In 1962 Leonard Bernstein, conductor of the NY Philharmonic, tried to take one of the black members of the orchestra into the Miller Brothers restaurant in Baltimore and was told he couldn't. But by then he could throw a fit.

This was the obvious nonsense of the " separate but equal" Plessy vs Ferguson ruling by the Supreme Court that helped to codify segregation in 1899. Blacks worked around whites, sometimes in close proximity ( Thurgood Marshall would later observe that many white Southern children were raised being fed by black cooks). They just could not socialize, live in the same space, do something that would have implied equality.
