When did musicians stop considering volume of an axis of dynamism and how does that relate to the current focus on pitch-based dynamic in popular music today?

I'm confused by your terms "volume of an axis of dynamism" and "pitch-based dynamic." Could you please explain? From what I can tell, current research emphasizes that pitch-based structures are declining in their structural importance while what Leonard Meyer called "Secondary Parameters" (especially timbre, texture, and dynamics) are rising in prominence. I'm thinking especially of the recent dissertation by Megan Lavengood on the subject of the MOOG Synthesizer out of CUNY.

Other users will, I'm sure, be more qualified than I am to answer your question, but I do think that the terms you used in your question are slightly unclear.
