This was posted originally on r/history, but I hope I'm in the right place this time.
My husband and I are going to Athens for our honeymoon in less than 2 weeks. We love going to historical sites, but as neither of us recalls much from our history classes, a refresher would be very helpful. Does anyone know of a good book, podcast, or video series that might help guide our trip?
I'm fairly new to Greek history too, but I read a good introductory book a few weeks ago called The Rise of Athens by Anthony Everitt. It tells the story of Athens from Greek mythology onwards and understandably spends most of its time in the fifth century B.C.
I also read a book on the Parthenon by David Stuttard which is fairly short and may be a good one to pick up if you are interested in learning more about the Parthenon before your trip.
I hope that you have a good time!
