We don't allow hypothetical questions, but as with most hypothetical questions posted here, there's another question in there that can be answered.

In this case that's probably something like "What was the scientific environment like 200 years before Darwin as it relates to the sorts of things Darwin was talking about", and that's something that can be answered.

OP: I've approved the post because of that, so assume answers are within that sort of framing.

Commenters: Please make sure you're answers are written to stay within the rules of the sub. Answers that don't will end up getting removed and then we'll all have a whinge about comment graveyards. Give OP the benefit of the doubt and answer the question as if it were framed completely in accordance with the draconian rules we so ruthlessly enforce around here.
