Was Joseph Goebbels known as the Minister of "Propaganda" to the German population?

by whole_shabang_mild

The word propaganda carries quite a negative connotation these days. It seems like every article I read, documentary I watch, he is referred to as the Minister of Propaganda. I would imagine the German population at the time would have known him by a different title.

More can be written about this, but you might like to start with some previous discussions of the term. /u/Searocksandtrees compiled some links in 'Did Joseph Goebbels actually have the title of "propaganda minister" in Nazi Germany? If so, isn't this a bit strange given the meaning of propaganda?' , pointing to answers by /u/tlumacz , /u/NMW , and DV1312.

This is not to discourage discussion. Further questions, data, and debate are always welcome.
