I sometimes see accounts of the Holocaust from survivors of the camps, but I don't know much about how people who weren't involved, as victims or perpetrators, felt about the situation. Did they even know what their government was doing? Did most people support it, or did a lot of people just not care either way?
More can be and may be written, and I hope some experts can vet these. While waiting, these previous discussions seem useful:
"How much of the German population supported Genocide/Naziism?" by /u/nate077
"Did most Germans willingly support the Nazi Party in the 1930's and 40's?" by /u/capperz412
"When did most Germans turn against Hitler?" by /u/Spoonfeedme -- since this even says "based on such evidence, we can make some educated guesses", I hesitated before pointing at this and could easily be talked into removing it.
This is not to discourage discussion. Further questions, data, and debate are welcome.
