I am interested in understanding Soviet Union during the time after its creation and consolidation to somewhere around the great terror. I have read couple of books about Soviet history but they all go over this period in couple of pages. It would be very helpful if somebody has any recommendation to what should I read
I would recommend the following,
The Russian Revolution by Sheila Fitzpatrick
Everyday Stalinism: Ordinary Life in Extraordinary Times: Soviet Russia in the 1930s by Sheila Fitzpatrick
Cultural Revolution in Russia, 1928–1931 edited by Sheila Fitzpatrick
Russia in the Era of NEP: Explorations in Soviet Society and Culture Edited by Sheila Fitzpatrick, Alexander Rabinowitch and Richard Stites
Economic History of the USSR by Alexander Nove
Soviet Russia: Anatomy of a Social History by Erich Strauss
The Economic Transformation of the Soviet Union, 1913-1945 edited by R.W Davies
Magnetic Mountain by Stephen Kotkin
