I’m thinking something like how a non-rifled barrel on a gun just became outclassed by guns with rifled barrels. Did something similar happen with how almost every culture developed a sword with a similar design?
Bronze spearheads used to be tied on (like stone ones) before being socketed. Axes went through a few different attachment methods before also settling on the socket. The belly bow was replaced by the ballista. Bronze sword blades were originally riveted to the hilt before the invention of the tang. Contrary to popular belief, iron weapons did NOT immediately outclass bronze weapons. It would take a little longer before they became better.
