What literature do you recommend someone about to start studying European history?

by migigame

In several months I'm starting to study history in Europe. Due to our history course in school I know a decent amount of European history of the 19 and 20th century, but I'm interested in what other pieces of literature are a great way to learn more.

Thanks in advance

Can you give us some vague dates for how early you'll be looking?

If you're looking at the Reformation at all I'd recommend Reformation: Europe's House Divided by Diarmaid MacCulloch.
