[meta] Would it be possible to flag answered posts?

by telasch

I keep browsing this sub a lot only to click on threads that have over 50 deleted comments and no valid answer. I get the quality standards and appreciate them a lot, but it would still be nice to know if a question has been thoroughly answered or not.

Hi! This suggestion actually comes up a lot. Here’s a discussion on why we don’t so that. The primary issue with an answered flair:

The main reason why we don’t have an ‘answered’ flair (or tag) for questions is that – as has been explained above – there is no definitive answer to a historical question. An ‘answered’ flair suggests that everything that is to be said has been said. It also suggests an endorsement of the one answer that was posted, an implicit rejection of alternative views. It should be needless to say, but we want to avoid giving that impression at all costs.

Other important considerations are just who would do all the extra work! The mods do an awesome job, but they have real jobs and lives, too. Endorsing an answer is quite different from simply not deleting it, so evaluating to that higher bar would definitely create an extra workload. It’s just too much to expect from folks who are generous enough to volunteer their time here.

Would it be possible to do the opposite, IE have all new posts tagged as "no answers yet" and remove that tag once the mods see an answer that meets the standards? That might address OP's complaint without adding any additional work for the mod team.

I was just thinking about suggesting this yesterday! o/

Mods, this would be a huge improvement to the usability of the sub, IMO.
