The Roman pantheon seems to roughly correspond with the Greek one (Jupiter is comparable to Zeus, Neptune is comparable to Poseidon, etc); were they in fact related? Did the Roman pantheon derive from the Greek one, or was the relationship somehow different? How is Apollo is present in both?

More can be written, but you might be interested in something from the "Antiquity" page of the FAQ, "Were the Roman gods literally transplanted from the Ancient Greek tradition or did Rome coincidentally have a pantheon of Gods that lined up with the Greeks and they made the comparison later on?" by /u/idontplayoboe .

This is not to discourage discussion. More questions, data, and debate are welcome.
