In the Middle Ages (Europe) you had hospitals and 'Nursing homes' organized by monks or certain groups you joined. Mostly people got into those care homes by promising all their wealth to these institutions (if you stayed till your death in these institutions of course). There are also reports of people being sick and then went back home again, so technically you could say they were also hospitals.
