I would have thought that professional historians would use CE/BCE conventions for dating. Is this true, and why has there been no penetration into broader areas of history writing, such as Wikipedia and school textbooks?
More can be written, but a good amount has been written in this subreddit. You might like to look at these recent discussions, which have a lot of opinions: "Is BCE/CE the correct way of dating nowadays?" (perhaps best summarized by /u/keyilan ) and this , answers by a variety of people.
This is not to discourage discussion. More questions, data, and debate are welcome.
Oh and additionally, is there a rule for usage on this sub?
