Black Zion: African American Religious Encounters with Judaism

Chosen People: The Rise of American Black Israelite Religions

Black Jews of Harlem

Personal note: I am an African American convert to Judaism. My late uncle considered himself a Hebrew (he had literature on a number of African American alternative religions). I have read all of the books I posted: the 1st two I've owned copies of, and the 3rd I read while enrolled at an HBCU back in 97).

None of them are perfect, but they should serve to give a decent background. The entire subject is pretty complex, though.

Thank you these are wonderful places to start!
