Hello all,
I would really like to learn more of the decisions at the Congress of Vienna. I would love to analyze its political decisions and process, and maybe even its effects - for instance, how Sweden lost territory, or how France fell to more liberal “revolutions” whereas Russia or Prussia did not.
I have seen some apparently great books on the social aspects of the Congress - duels and romances and personal intrigue and mysticism - but I would like a mix between that and the proper diplomatic aspects of it, or perhaps a diplomatic history featuring the effects to come (again, France liberalizing versus Prussia not).
Any answers would be greatly appreciated!
I can't claim to say where it stands up in the historiography, but I really enjoyed Henry Kissinger's A World Restored: Metternich, Castlereagh and the Problems of Peace, 1812-22 about the Congress.
I would check out the very recent "the Congress of Vienna" by Mark Jarrett, on IB Taurus, which is atand the work of Paul Schroeder (the Transformation of European Politics and Metternich at His Zenith -- these both cover quite a bit aside from the Congress, but feature it).
