Why did ancient civilisations such as Egypt and Babylon not go on to craft empires comparable to that of Rome?
I understand that they created empires that were at the time huge, but none, in my eyes, got close to the achievements of Rome, and i find this surprising considering how technologically superior they were to their adversaries (such as Rome was to the Gauls)
I'm not sure I agree with your statement that they were technologically superior. Also, the heyday of most of these empires was the Late Bronze Age so multiple major empires existed at the same time. Take for example the Battle of Qadesh. Hatti (the Hittites) and Egypt were both very powerful and met there in the first major battle in world history (most likely). They fought to a stalemate and neither could continue to grow.
