What's the earliest period in which an English king could surely obtain a coconut?

The natural habitat of the coconut palm, for the curious. There is some overlap with the natural habitat of the West African Swallow, but between the Swallow's small size and lack of migration, I think we can consider the possibility of one dropping a coconut over England negligible. The Silk Road, on the other hand, could have brought coconuts to England. But did it? If not, what age of intercontinental trade first made coconuts available to the English royal family?

Stop! Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the [removed] sign he see.

  1. Is your post a comprehensive and in-depth answer about the availabilty of coconuts to English kings and not just a Monty Python reference?

  2. Is it based on good historical method and sources and not just a Monty Python reference?

  3. What kind of coconut, the tall variety or the dwarf variety?

Thank you!

Certainly coconuts were available in England by the 14th century CE, imported via Venetian traders from India. One particularly notable form of evidence for this is the existence of "Coconut cups", polished coconut shells often gilded with silver and used as ornamental drinking vessels. They weren't known as coconuts at time, generally referred to as Indian Nuts or Great Nuts. They would have been an exotic luxury, but that's not much of an obstacle for a King.
