How prevalent was atheism during ancient Roman times?

I'm interested in learning more about religious beliefs during the Roman republic/early empire period, when the Romans officially worshipped the Pagan Gods. Are there any sources to show atheism amongst the population or nobility? Were atheists outcasts in society?
